We Are Being Discovered More and More!!!

I found this fascinating quote about weekeego today:

I just would like to share with you a website I found and that I got in touch with its creators/managers.

I really like the adopted approach as it is community oriented and puts forward the experience of travelling first. I have said here several times that the most important thing regarding ecotourism is to establish as much as possible a true connection with the locals and to get a sense of the place. These values are utterly shared by the people behind weekeego.

3 NEW AWESOME weekeeSpots!!!

3 perfect samples of what weekeego really is all about!

3 dreams that came true in the hands of visionaries that decided to partner with communities and set up a venture that enhances, enriches and empowers the local people, their life style and their life standards.

3 ways of going local and dance with the world as it REALLY is!!!
____________________________

True Learning Village - Zimbabwe
The dream of Marianne Knuth was to inspire the co-creation of strong life affirming communities in Zimbabwe and beyond by living and sharing the wisdom, practices and social systems that are required for such communities.
The village strives to be a resource for the world - developing ourselves as a place where we explore and seek to live what we believe to be possible. We are working with five rural communities and one urban group in our quest for life-affirming community. We are working with them to develop the foundation for initiatives that will strengthen and nourish a community.

Living Ecologically - Dominica
During his early 20's, Jem Wiston dreamt of building and running a small place in Dominica, having disovered it during his backpacking days in 1990. Then he got serious and returned to England to save money to be able to buy land in Dominica. And so it began, on an overgrown banana plantation, in a remote part, of a remote island in the Caribbean; now his home, Dominica.

From the beginning the idea has been to create the ideal getaway, respecting the environment and working closely with the locals to create an ambience that is a mixture of cultures, where people on any budget can enjoy the natural wonders of Dominica, whilst minimizing the environmental impact and aiding the development of the local community. Together with an excellent team of local workers, they are now receiving a steadily growing flow of guests.

Getting Inspired - South Africa
Dave Martin is a former hippie that decided to stop his traveling adventures and set up a lodge. This lodge is the realization of his dreams during years of travels through the most remote parts of Africa, China and South America: to create an eco-friendly backpackers lodge in the most beautiful place in South Africa in partnership with a vibrant, traditional community.

This is a joint partnership with the local community who own 40% of the lodge and run fifteen of their own tourism businesses.

You will be welcomed as a friend of the community and will get to see a way of life long forgotten. Here you have a chance to see how great life could be before electricity, TV and computers.
